why do we travel? Or like the song goes "does anybody know what we are looking for"?? Why do we consider travel a basic desire nowadays? I especially like how George Santayana puts it in The Philosophy of Travel: "We need sometimes to escape into open solitudes, into aimlessness, into the moral holiday of running some pure hazard, in order to sharpen the edge of life, to taste hardship, and to be compelled to work desperately for a moment at no matter what." Do we travel to lose ourselves or to find ourselves? In order to find the WHERE, WHEN or HOW to travel, we need to rediscover the pure pleasure of travels and the meaning of our own inner journey and rediscovery.

Hawaii Songs are so beautiful ... Bruddah Iz was so loved by the Hawaiian people - his music is outstanding.

I also love the songs sung by Ke'alii Reichel (not related). He is very popular in Hawaii.

The Islands of Hawaii have some amazing, talented artists.

Aloha Gary,
Nice post about not getting eaten up by your job and relax and enjoy the wonderful things Hawaii has to offer to visitors and residents alike, such as scuba diving on Maui.

I must admit I am not a scuba diver, never been and never will but to tell you the truth snorkeling the warm waters around the Hawaiian Islands can be the same relaxing. It's a world of wonders waiting above the coral reefs for your admiration! My favorite ocean creatures in Hawaii: Green Sea Turtles, Eagle rays, puffer fish, yellow tang and Humuhumunukunukuapuaa!

All of you ocean lovers, have fun scuba diving or snorkeling in Hawaii!

Aloha, Pua

I just found this link to something called Museum Day (by Smithsonian Magazine). It was for 2009, but it might be a good resource for anyone looking for museum events.

Thanks -- I surfed for 25 years and I've always loved the ocean, but it was a long time before I tried SCUBA, or snorkeling. It started when a long time friend (born and raised on Maui) took me out snorkeling where we laid-net and caught some taco. I had a great time and one thing lead to another ...years later I was a Divemaster; so you never know were it might take you? That story takes me back 15 years, when I lived with George and Becs in Napili. They are good people.
